“To be able to have this creative outlet has been invaluable to me at this time. With Kate’s help it has really made me think about culture in Peterborough along with how people enjoy open spaces.”

“Seeing the other artists work was incredibly powerful and inspiring and gave my images new meaning.”

Dan Butt worked together with Kate Genever on a small commission supporting Kate’s work. Dan started off looking at green spaces around Peterborough and how people enjoy them. There are some great places to explore, full of history and culture, if you look hard enough. This was inspired by a weekly walk that Dan and his girlfriend started doing when they were in lockdown. This started off in Nene Park but gradually they began to wander further afield and explored places they had never been. The original plan was to produce a painting however, from discussions with Kate, the project evolved into using photos and/or video. Dan became interested in what people do and the choices they make when confronted with the unknown (or unwelcoming). Do you explore or steer clear? Stay safe or take a risk? Stay clean or get dirty? Physical and mental barriers are encountered all the time and people deal with them differently.
